Who needs the well driller bond?
In the State of Kentucky, professionals who operate well drilling or driving equipment, or engage in the drilling or driving of wells or a person who installs or repairs water well pumping equipment is required to obtain a $5,000 surety bond in compliance with KRS section 223.405 through 223.460. "Driller" means any person who engages in drilling or drilling operations and the installation of pumps and pumping equipment. "Water well driller" means a person who is qualified to engage in the drilling, alteration, or repair of a water well as defined in this chapter.
What is the well driller bond?
The $5,000 well driller bond protects the party requesting the surety bond, the Obligee, against any financial losses as a result of poor financial choices, damages, unethical decisions, or a failure to adhere to state and local laws on the part of you, the Principal. A performance bond or letter of credit shall be provided to the director by any water well contractor or driller for the conduct of drilling operations to ensure compliance with the procedures and standards contained in this part. As a guarantee that all applicable laws, rules, regulations and the terms of this bond will be observed and hereby bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, administrators, successors and assigns jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. This bond is effective upon receipt by the Department for Environmental Protection.

What else do I need to obtain or renew my license?
(1) A driller shall be subject to disciplinary action if the driller:
All certified water well drillers shall renew their certificates annually. Certificates shall be valid from the date of issuance until the following June 30. If an initial certificate is issued after May 1, it shall be effective until June 30 of the next calendar year. Certificates shall be renewed by July 1 of each year.
