"Heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration" or "HVACR" means the process of treating and protecting the environment by the responsible handling, dispensing, collecting and cleaning of chlorofluorocarbons and other refrigerants in stationary sources, and controlling the temperature, humidity and cleanliness of air by using the "wet," "dry," "radiant," "conduction," "convection," "direct," or "indirect" method or combination of methods, including those which utilize solar energy, to meet the environmental requirements of a designated area. "HVACR" also means the installation, servicing, connecting, maintenance or repair.
Who needs the HVAC or refrigeration bond?
In the State of Alaska, HVAC and refrigeration contractors are required to obtain a $5,000 surety bond.
What is the HVAC or refrigeration bond?
The $5,000 HVAC or refrigeration bond protects the party requesting the surety bond, the Obligee, against any financial losses as a result of poor financial choices, damages, unethical decisions, or a failure to adhere to state and local laws and regulations on the part of you, the Principal. By obtaining your bond, you are telling the Obligee that you can be trusted and that you stand by your business decisions.
What else do I need to obtain or renew my license?
While both HVAC and refrigeration work are covered under the same bond, any applicants planning to work as both an HVAC and a refrigeration contractor must pass the separate tests required for each license.
The Board of Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors can be reached by phone at (334) 241-0840.
